Ronald Barry Knode

Crofton, MD died of stroke-related injuries at
University of Maryland Medical Center in
Baltimore on Thursday, May 31, 2012.

Born on January 19, 1946 in Washington,
DC, he was the son of the late Daniel P.
Knode, Jr. and Virginia Knode.

In 1964, he graduated from
Anacostia Senior High School in
Washington, DC. Following high school, he attended the United States
Naval Academy, from which he graduated in 1968, competing on the
track and field and cross country teams all four years. He received his
Master's degree in Mathematics from the Naval Post Graduate School
in Monterey, California. He served in the U.S. Navy for seven years,
beginning in Kamiseya, Japan, and ending with service at the National
Security Agency in Fort Meade, Maryland.

After his career in the Navy, he entered the private sector, working for
several major defense contractors around the Washington Metro area.
Before entering semi-retirement in 2011, he served as Director of
Global Security Solutions for Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC).

He also taught students as an adjunct professor in the Applied
Information Technology graduate program at Towson University. In
1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Judith Herriman.

Once his career in the Navy was finished, they settled in Bowie,
Maryland, to raise their three boys, before moving to Davidsonville, and
finally Crofton. An avid tennis player for more than three decades and a
willing golfer in later years, Ron stayed active athletically and also
musically - he was a prolific member of the choir at Village Baptist
Church, the church family he called home for 35 years.

A beloved friend, devoted husband, loving father and doting
grandfather, Ron will be dearly missed by so many people whose lives
he brightened over the years. He is survived by his wife, Judy Knode
(Herriman); three brothers and their wives, Daniel and Barbara Knode
of Fort Washington, MD, Stephen and Candy Knode of Myrtle Beach,
SC and Wayne and Diane Knode of La Plata, MD; three sons and two
daughter-in-laws, Todd Knode of Midlothian, VA, Ross and Bethany
Knode (Fette) of Berthoud, CO, and James Knode and Alisa Simmons
of Alexandria, VA; along with two granddaughters, Eliana Fae Knode
and Makena Li Knode.

A memorial gathering will be held at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW
Crain Hwy., Bowie Maryland on Monday, June 4 from 6 p.m. to 8
p.m., followed by a memorial service at Village Baptist Church, 1950
Mitchellville Road, Bowie on Tuesday, June 5 at 7 p.m.
