TIMOTHY ROCK CULLEN

Timothy Cullen, 67, passed away on September 7, 2013 in
Farmington Hills, MI.

Tim was born in Washington, DC, and graduated from
Woodrow Wilson High School (1965). Prior to his
graduation from George Washington University with a BS in
Geology, Tim served in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

He earned an MS in Structural Geology from CCNY. Tim was a natural athlete: runner,
swimmer, hiker, golfer and ardent rower. During his years at GWU he co-captained the
varsity crew and after graduation, he became GWU Men's Assistant Crew Coach and Head
Crew Coach.

Early in his career, Tim worked as an engineering geologist on major rapid transit tunneling
projects on the east coast including DC's Metro subway system.

After relocating to Michigan with his wife Claire, he served as an environmental consultant for
a number of years.

In the early 1990's, Tim, Claire and daughter Abbey moved to Australia where Tim travelled
extensively. Upon return to the US, the Cullens settled in Farmington Hills where Tim worked
for the University of Michigan as Manager of the Environmental Protection and Permitting
Office. Tim was an active member of the American Institute of Professional Geologists and
the Michigan Association of Environmental Professionals. He was described by his
colleagues and friends as a consummate professional, a dear friend and colleague, and a
person of integrity, great wit and humor.

With a talent for landscaping, Tim created an oasis of natural beauty at his Michigan home.
Tim was a Cullen family historian and spent time traveling through Europe tracing the
journeys of ancestors in Ireland, and the WWII postings of his father in France.

Tim was predeceased by his parents, Mary Rock Cullen and Daniel Anthony Cullen, and is
survived by his wife of 36 years Claire L. Cullen of Farmington Hills, and daughter Abbey
Cullen of Chicago. Tim is also survived by eight siblings and a host of loving relatives and
friends.

A celebration of Tim's life was held in Michigan. The Timothy R. Cullen Memorial Fund has
