Robert Louis Sayles

Bob Sayles passed away July 22, 2017. Born in Alexandria, VA on February 22, 1935, he
was the son of the late Anita and Robert Sayles.

Bob graduated from
Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, DC in 1953 and
earned a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Bucknell University in 1958. After serving
two years as a Lieutenant in the US Army, Bob worked at various electronics firms in
California. He retired in 2005, as the Director of Trust Operations at PNC Bank. An
accomplished chorister, pianist, and organist, Bob performed with many choral groups
including the Schola Cantorum in San Francisco, of which he was past President, the Fairfax
Choral Society, and was a stalwart member of the adult choir of St. Barnabas' Episcopal
Church in Annandale Virginia.

He was an avid reader, particularly of World War II and Civil War history as well as
presidential biographies. Bob was an ardent opera buff and retained a lifelong fondness for
Mark Twain and single malt Scotch.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Ann Wentworth (Raybold) Sayles, his sister Marguerite
Sayles, two sons,. Lindsey and Joseph, a daughter Christine and several grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son Jeffrey. His two previous marriages ended in divorce.

A memorial service will be held at St. Barnabas' Episcopal Church, 4801 Ravensworth Road,
Annandale, VA, 22003 at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, with reception to follow.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers at the service, contributions may be made to the  
charity of your choice or the Fairfax Choral Society or the St. Barnabas Music Department.
