MARY A. GORE (Age 92)
Of Washington, DC passed away Monday, March 27,
2017 at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, VA.
Ms. Gore was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High
School (1942) and George Washington University
where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in
sociology and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.
She enlisted in the Navy as a WAVES in 1944 and
retired as a Captain in 1980 as one of the highest
ranking women officers at that time. Ms. Gore was a
member of OES Chapter #17 District of Columbia and
a member of Wisconsin Avenue Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ida C. and Frederick Gore; and brothers Robert
Hilton and W. Frederick Gore.
Survivors include her three nieces and one nephew, Nancy Craig, Robert Gore, Kathleen
Stephens and Pam Hicks; and great-nieces and nephews, Cory, Kristin, Megan, Anna Grace,
Noah, Joshua and Paris Hicks, Katie and Tommy Craig, Thomas and John Stephens.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 3, at Covenant Funeral Service,
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will be at 2 p.m. in Rock Creek Cemetery, in Washington, DC.
