Joseph Chaim Horenstein

joseph Chaim Horenstein of Stevensville, Maryland, died August
27, 2018 at his home.

He was 86. Born September 26, 1931, Joseph "Papa Joe" was
the son of Max and Katherine Phillips Horenstein.

He resided in Hyattsville, MD until age 15, moving to Washington,
DC in the 1940s. He graduated from
Woodrow Wilson High
School in 1949.

He spent several years working for his father's business before serving in the Army in the
Korean War from 1952 to 1954.

After service, he attended George Washington University on the GI Bill, and worked in various
warehouses. In 1988, he married his beloved Mary Ellen Haines of Stevensville, Maryland.

Joe spent much of his free time playing football, basketball and was dedicated to his children
and grandchildren's sports games. He was their biggest fan.

In addition to his wife, Mary Ellen, Joe is survived by stepchildren Ginger (Ron) Stewart,
Randy Gambrill (Angie Heffner), and Kevin (Jen) Ferguson; 13 grandchildren: Liz (Dominic),
Leanne, Brian, Janie (Donald), Ryan, Reanna, Kailee, Kyle, Jordon (Steve), Kali and Jolie; 5
great-grandchildren Nico, Mackenzie, Juliana, Kaylyn and Henry; sister Ruth (Henry) Modlin,
and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, Max and Katherine.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 9 am at Maryland Veterans
Cemetery Eastern Shore, 6827 E. New Market Elwood Rd., Hurlock, MD 21643.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Compass Regional Hospice, 160 Coursevall
Drive, Centreville MD 21617.
