Carolyn Jane Eble Hillis

On Tuesday, January 10, 2017 Carolyn Jane "Janie" Hillis died
peacefully at her son's home in Leesburg, Virginia, at the age
of 80.

Janie was born in New York City on April 14, 1936. She was the
second child of Francis X. A. Eble and Hattie Eble, both of whom preceded her in death, as
did her husband, James W. "Jim" Hillis, who died in 2004.

Janie is survived by her by her brother, Frank, and by her children, James, Jon, and Janette
and four grandchildren.

Janie graduated with honors from
Woodrow Wilson High School in 1953. She received
her B.A. from Catholic University in Washington, DC in 1957, and her M.S. from the
University of Maryland in 1959.

She met Jim while at the University of Maryland, and they married in 1960. Janie was a lay
leader at St. Columba's Episcopal Church in Washington, DC since joining the church in

From 2011 until the time of her death she lived at Ingleside at King Farm in Rockville, MD.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Columba's Episcopal
Church, Washington, DC.

Remembrances will take place at a reception at the church immediately after the memorial
