Ambassador BRANDON HAMBRIGHT GROVE, JR. (Age 87)

Ambassador Brandon Grove died of complications from
cancer at home surrounded by his family on May 20, 2016.

A distinguished diplomat, U.S. Navy veteran, and American
patriot, Ambassador Grove cherished his family, including
his wife Mariana Moran Grove who preceded him in death;
his four children from his first marriage to Marie Cheremeteff
and their spouses; his step-daughter; and his seven
grandchildren.

A 1950 undergraduate of Bard College and 1952 graduate
of Princeton University, Ambassador Grove valued
independent and critical thinking. He enjoyed engaging
the next generation of diplomats, and was a mentor, teacher, and friend to countless junior
Foreign Service Officers. A successful 35-year career in the Department of State took him
around the globe, the adventures and lessons of which he shared in his book "Behind
Embassy Walls: the Life and Times of an American Diplomat." He was blessed to have had a
full and meaningful life.

Brandon H. Grove, Jr. was born to Brandon H. Grove, Sr. and Helen Julia Gasparska in
Chicago, Illinois on April 8, 1929. He is survived by his brother Lloyd J. Grove of Carol
Stream, Illinois.

The Grove family is particularly grateful for the thoughtful care provided by Irene Macalala to
their father in his later years and final days. A celebration of Ambassador Grove''s life will be
held in the fall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ambassador Brandon Grove''s
name to Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York (
