Arthur “Art” Johannes Beach, age 88, of Columbus, Ohio died March
7, 2020 at Riverside Methodist Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 26, 1931 to the late
W. Edwards Beach and Liselotta (von Usedom) Beach.
Art married Gracie Mae Beach (nee Ragon) in June of 1954.
Together they shared 57 years of marriage.
He is survived by sons, John Edwards Beach, David Warner Beach, Allen Walter Beach and
Arthur Stephen Beach; brother, Allen E. Beach; granddaughter, Rose Mae Beach; grandson,
Peter Johannes Beach; sister-in-law, Martha Beach; daughter-in-law, Karen Yager-Beach;
former daughter-in-law, Rebecca Ann Beach; and four grandchildren-in-law.
Art is preceded in death by his step-granddaughter, Megan Pietz and brother, Walter E.
In 1956, he became a member of First Unitarian Universalist Church. Art was also a
Scoutmaster of Troop 210 and one of his proudest achievements was earning the rank of
He worked 36 years as an editor with Chemical Abstracts Service, contributing to the world’s
largest index. Art also worked many years as a tax accountant, both for private clients and at
Universal Tax Service. A true polymath, Arthur was an avid bridge player, in addition to being
devoted to golf, Ohio History, and family genealogy.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 2:00 PM at First Unitarian
Universalist Church, 93 W. Weisheimer Road, Columbus, Ohio 43214.
