Joe grew up in western New York state where he attended Catholic schools and a one room
school house. During his life he survived a variety of serious illnesses which caused him to
be given last rites a least three times, but he was a survivor. As a result of his childhood
illnesses, it took him three tries to enlist in the Navy. However, after he completed his military
training, the war in the Pacific ended and he completed his service in Key West, Florida.
On his return to Washington, DC, Joe met his future wife, Gloria. After a long and happy
marriage, he lost Gloria in 2009 and had missed her every day. Over his lifetime, Joe
worked at a movie house, as a milkman, as an elevator operator, as a bicycle messenger,
as a plasterer and was part of the Truman era White House Reconstruction. His last job was
as a mailer at The Washington Post.
Joe loved baseball, golf, bowling, and his family. He would break out in song whenever the
mood hit him. Joe retained his sense of humor to the end. He was an engaging personality
who got along with everyone he met.
We say goodbye to a man whose life was full with few regrets on how he lived it. Son,
Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, he did it all. Thank you Joseph Linsler for
