Varina Richard Shipe

November 19, 1925 - October 10, 2017 Varina Richard
Shipe, 91, passed peacefully of natural causes at
Hospice of the Chesapeake.

She was born and raised in Washington, DC where she
was the daughter of Vernon I. and Vanessa T. Richard.
She graduated from
Western High School in 1943
and then attended Westhampton College in Richmond
and George Washington University in Washington.

She married Walter Harban Shipe on August 21, 1948. She was married 64 years until
his death in March of 2013.

She leaves three daughters, Linda Leasor (Gary) of Fair Haven NJ, Virginia Cameron of
Severna Park MD, and Janis Brown (Reuben) of Grasonville MD. She also leaves four
grandchildren, Andrew and Scott Cameron and Christopher and Katie Leasor and six
great-grandchildren, Anna Cameron, Colton and Kensington Cameron, and Samantha,
Max, and Eloise Leasor, and her loyal dog Trooper.

A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Joseph E.
Hagan Chapel of Joseph Gawler's Sons 5130 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington, DC

There will be a reception at the funeral home from Noon until 2:00 PM.

Burial will be in Potomac Methodist Cemetery at 3 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local SPCA, the Humane Society of
America, or to a charity of choice.
