Sara Catherine Botsford Steiner

WILLIAMSBURG - Sara Catherine Steiner flew
away home to meet her Heavenly Father on Tuesday,
Sept. 11, 2012.

Sara Catherine was born on June 3, 1920 in
Titusville, Fla. She spent her childhood years in
Washington, D.C. She was a graduate of
Western
High School
and National Park College. On Dec. 18,
1942 she married Jacob Roger Hamilton, a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.

Upon his return from the war, they started their family with the addition of
twins, Jacob Roger Jr. and Joanne Catherine. While Roger pursued a
military career, Sara Catherine set up house. Soon there was an additional
son, Norman Botsford. In 1956, their dream life was cut short with the
tragic death of Roger.

Sara Catherine raised all three children as a single mom while working as a
receptionist at the Newport News School System. In 1970, after all her
children had graduated from college, she married Lt. Colonel Mahlon
"Lynn" Steiner. They lived in Newport News until her retirement in 1984,
when they moved to Kingsmill on the James. They were members of
Williamsburg Presbyterian Church.

Lynn and Sara Catherine moved to Patriots Colony at Williamsburg when it
first opened. There they enjoyed their life together until his passing in 2005.
In her final years, Sara Catherine continued her residency at Patriots Colony
and was surrounded by friends and family when she made her final trip
home.

Sara Catherine will be remembered for her many fine qualities. One of her
greatest gifts was the ability to make the people around her feel as if they
were the most important people in the world. Her family remembers that
love was always in abundance in her home. Sara Catherine had a
compassionate spirit for all she met, and was always positive and full of life.
Her gracious manner and sense of style serve as a role model for us all. She
always had the right thing to say whether she was being a daughter, mother,
wife, sister, grandmother, or friend. Sara Catherine shared love with
everyone, asking nothing in return. In the dictionary of life, Sara's picture is
next to the word "lady."

Sara Catherine was preceded in death by her father, Captain Norman
Botsford; and her mother, Edna Botsford; her brother, Lieutenant Colonel
Norman Botsford Jr.; her husbands, Lieutenant Colonel Roger Hamilton
and Lieutenant Colonel Lynn Steiner; an infant son; and stepson, Robert
Steiner.

She is survived by her three children, Colonel Roger Hamilton Jr. and wife,
Mary Margaret, Joanne Curtis and husband Ronald, Norman Hamilton and
wife, Dona Jo; and two stepchildren, Mary Steiner and Mike Steiner and
wife, Janet. Sara Catherine had six grandchildren, Roger Hamilton III, Scott
Hamilton, Brian Curtis and wife, Kristine, Wendy Baker and husband,
Brad, Wynne Barnwell and husband, James, Clayton Hamilton; as well as
two stepgrandchildren, Dawne Benskin and Stephanie Steiner. Rounding out
Sara Catherine's loving family are three great-grandchildren, Mason and
Jacob Baker and Sophie Curtis.

A memorial service to honor her life will be held in the Grand Hall at
Patriot's Colony at Williamsburg, 6000 Patriots Colony Lane, Williamsburg
on Friday, Sept. 14, at 11 a.m. A reception will follow the service. Burial
will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The
Salvation Army or The Wounded Warriors Project in her name.
