Julia S. Merrill

Julia S. Merrill "Judy" departed this life on May 9, 2017.

She was born December 7, 1918 in New York City to the
late Marta Crowley Merrill and Jesse Spaulding Merrill.

The family lived in Orlando, Florida for 11 years before
moving to Washington, DC, where Judy graduated from
Western High School. In 1945,
Judy studied Library Science at Simmons College in Boston and then lived in College
Park, MD, where she stayed until moving to Riderwood Village in 2008.

Judy was a librarian for the US Department of Agriculture for 40 years, primarily working
at the Bee Culture Branch in Beltsville.

After her retirement, she volunteered for Leland Memorial Hospital, Meals on Wheels and
First United Methodist Church of Hyattsville, where she was a member for 45 years. Judy
was known for her loyal friendship, keen sense of humor, positive outlook and colorful
costume jewelry.

She is survived by her cousin Ellen Douglas (Rick Slater) of Reston VA.

A celebration of Judy's wonderful life was held by close friends and family on May 7.
