HARRYETTE M. SMITH (age 93)   

On Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at her residence in Washington, DC; beloved wife of the
late Robert C. Smith; loving mother of Paula Bailey Smith of Washington, DC and Marcia
Daniel (Lawrence) of Gaithersburg, MD. She was preceded in death by her dear
grandson Eric Daniel.

A life-long city resident, she graduated from
Western High School in 1935. She
began her career in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1936 in the office of Donald
O'Toole (D-New York). She worked for Thomas "Tip" O'Neill (D-Massachusetts) from his
election in 1952 until her retirement in 1965.

She is survived by two granddaughters Rebecca Sherman (Matthew) and Meghan
Kramer (Daniel) and two great-granddaughters.

Interment Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 3 p.m.

Meet at the Administration Building at 2:30 p.m. Friends will be received at her late
residence after interment.
