Dorothy Louise Brine Dillin  1921 - 2013

Dorothy Louise Brine Dillin, 92, peacefully died from cancer on
Saturday, December 7th, 2013 at the Kline Hospice House in
Mt Airy. Born September 29th, 1921 in Lebanon, PA, she was
the second child of the late  J Howard and Ruth Carl Brine. At
age six, Dorothy moved to Washington,DC where she attended
John Eaton Elementary, Gordon Junior High and
Western
High Schools (1940).
After graduating, she left Washington to
attend Lebanon Valley College where she majored in voice.

Two years later, she returned to DC to care for her ailing
mother. During WWII, she attended Strayer College which led
to working two years in the Pentagon as a stenographer.

At Foundary Methodist Church in Washington, she met and fell in love with C Duane Dillin,
a commerical artist. They were married six months later on March 3rd, 1950. On May 5th,
1954, they bore one child, Diane Larissa.

Dorothy happily found her niche in life in 1960 upon being hired as a stenographer for the
Department of Terrestral Magnetism of Carnegie Institution of Washington. Little did she
know that her temporary position would evolve into a 26 year career. Her life took on a
new direction when she applied for their retiring librarian's position. In spite of not having
any library education or experience, she excelled in her new career.

After retiring in 1986, she compassionately cared for a dear friend, Alex, until he died in
1990. Throughout this time, she lovingly supported her only sibling, Carolyn B Ertzinger,
until she passed away in 2001.

Dorothy enjoyed listening to operas, watching PBS and movies, attending concerts,
reading, and traveling. Her favorite expeditions were to Europe, Hawaii, the West Coast,
and New England. Most of all she loved going to the beach as practically every year she'd
take a trip to Ocean City, MD.

As a soft-spoken, compassionate, magnanimous woman, possessing great inner
strength, she will be missed by all who have known and loved her. Dorothy is survived by
her daughter, Diane Larissa Dillin, and her nephew, Richard Paul Ertzinger, his wife,
Mayfield, and their offspring, Susan and Brian. Dorothy will also be remembered by Linda
Rhoads, daughter of her late cousin, Virginia Smith, and Nancy Bachman, Carolyn and
Larry Eshelman, offspring of her late cousin, Frances Teitrick.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 17th from 5 - 6:30 PM at the Donald
B Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E Main St, Middletown. A candlelight funeral service will
begin at 6:30 PM with The Rev. Anjel Scarborough officiating. Private interment will be on
December 18th in Harrisburg, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to National Wildlife Federation, POB 1583,
Merrifield, VA 22116, WETA, 3939 Campbell Ave, Arlington, VA 22306 or Hospice of
