James Latimer Dendy, Jr. of Albany, Ga passed away peacefully on November 4, 2017. A
celebration of Jim’s life will be held Monday, November 6, 2017 at Porterfield United Methodist
Church at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will precede the service at 10:00 A.M. Rev Robert Greene and
Rev. William Collins will officiate. Interment will follow at Decatur Cemetery in Decatur, GA at a
later date.

Jim was a native Georgian born in Atlanta on May 25, 1932. His family relocated to the
Washington D.C. area where he attended St. Johns College High School and graduated from
McKinley Tech High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955. Upon
his return, he married Grace Leigh Haste of Hyattsville, Maryland. He graduated from the
University of Maryland with a degree in horticulture in 1960.

Jim spent his first career of 35 years in the pecan industry working for Gold Kist and Tracy
Luckey Pecan Company in Atlanta, Waycross and Albany, Georgia. Jim enthusiastically
embraced a second career with The Louver Shop until his retirement at 80 years of age.

Jim was a member of numerous civic organizations throughout his life including the Rotary and
Exchange Clubs. He enjoyed membership at Doublegate Country Club and was a member of
Porterfield Methodist Church and the Alpha Sunday School class.

Jim treasured family and friends who came to expect his pranks, easy laugh and storytelling. He
loved spending time at Lake Burton where he put his energy into building a cabin where
memories of Bar B Ques, fireworks, and Ed Dodd pancakes will be cherished.

Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Grace; daughter Deborah Ashendorf and her husband,
Bruce, Atlanta, GA; daughter Donna Propst and her husband, Warren, Columbia, SC; 5
grandchildren Taylor Ashendorf; Anne Usilton and husband Zack; Charles Propst and wife Ann
Rainey; James Propst, and Edwin Propst; 2 great grandchildren Caroline Usilton and Louis
Propst, sister, Diana Allebach and brother in law, George, Annapolis, MD. as well as numerous
and loving extended family members.In lieu of flowers please make memorials to Porterfield
