DAVID JOSEPH HESSLER
Formerly of Washington DC and Ocean City MD, passed away
on May 17, 2016 in Siesta Key, Florida.
He attended St. John''s College High School (1947) and the
University of Maryland. He married his high school sweetheart
Joyce in 1951 and raised his family on Stephenson Place NW. He had a long career of civil
service beginning with the Department of State, moving to the Department of the Navy and
finally the Department of Defense. He retired in 1985 from the DoD Comptroller''s office, last
serving as the Deputy Director of Program Budget.
Vacations and retirement were always in summer sunny climates including Ocean City
Maryland, Siesta Key Florida, and Luquillo Beach Puerto Rico. In his leisure time he enjoyed
family and friends, daily Mass, playing gin rummy, and a martini at 5 p.m. He also
volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by two daughters Louise M. Van Hooser (Robert J.) of Burke, VA and Diane
M. Hessler of Ellsworth, ME as well as three grandchildren, Robert David (Amanda), Kathryn
Louise (Brian), and Elizabeth Marie (Griffin) and three great-grand daughters.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. before the Mass of Christian Burial to be
offered at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, 3630 Quesada Street NW,
Washington, DC 20015 on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 11 a.m.
Interment immediately following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice (Sarasota FL) or Emmaus
Homeless Shelter (Ellsworth, ME).
