Sister Francene Van Eck

Sister Francene Van Eck, O.S.B, 88, of the Benedictine Sisters of Elizabeth, N.J., entered
eternal life on Dec. 8, 2013.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at St.
Walburga Monastery, 851 N. Broad St., Elizabeth, N.J. 07208.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the monastery on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013,
at 10 a.m.

Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, N.J.

Sr. Francene entered the Benedictine Sisters on Sept. 8, 1942, and her First Monastic
Profession was on April 29, 1944.

She received a bachelor's degree from Catholic University and a master's degree from St.
John's University in Collegeville, Minn.

Sr. Francene was a teacher and she taught at the following schools:
St. Anthony's in
Washington, D.C.; St. Joseph's in East Rutherford, N.J.; Immaculate Conception in
Hackensack, N.J.; St. Michael's in Cranford, N.J.; Sacred Heart and Benedictine Academy,
both in Elizabeth, and St. Ambrose in Cheverly, Md.

She was predeceased by her sister, Sister Pierre Van Eck, O.S.B.

Sr. Francene is survived by her brother, Harold Van Eck and his wife, Florence; two nieces,
four nephews, several grand-nieces and -nephews, as well as her Benedictine community.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Benedictine Sisters of Elizabeth.
