Sister Julia Rohr O.S.B.

Sister Julia Rohr, O.S.B., of the Benedictine Sisters of Elizabeth,passed away on Aug. 25,

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at St. Walburga Monastery, 851 N. Broad
St., Elizabeth, N.J., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the monastery.

Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia, N.J.

Sister Julia was a teacher, specializing in music. She taught at the following schools:
in Washington, D.C.; St. Ambrose in Cheverly, Md.; St. James in Springfield, N.J.,
and Bender Memorial Academy, Benedictine Academy and St. Genevieve's, all in Elizabeth.

Sister Julia received a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in music from Catholic
University. She entered the Benedictine Sisters on Sept. 8, 1945, and her first monastic
profession was on June 28, 1947.

After retiring from teaching, she was the organist at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary and St.
Michael's RC Church in Elizabeth. She also gave piano lessons to the children of the
community and would have an annual concert of her students.

Sister Julia is survived by her three brothers, Vernon Rohr, James Rohr, and Robert Rohr; her
three sisters, Sister Ruth Rohr, O.S.B.; Sister Marietta Rohr C.S.A. and Dorothy Konen;
numerous nieces and nephews, grand- and great-grand-nieces and nephews as well as her
Benedictine community.
