ROBERT CARL PURCELL
Robert Carl Purcell, went to be with our Lord on April 3, 2011.
Bob was the loving husband of Mildred E. Purcell (nee
MacDevitt) and loving father of three daughters: Nancy
Jackson (Doug), Mary Sherman (Don) and Patricia Miller
(Jeff), and four sons; Robert Jr. (Mary), Thomas (Robin), Joseph (Betsy), and John
(Elizabeth), and loving grandfather to 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also
survived by his sister, Margaret Greenwell and was predeceased by his brother Edward E.
Bob was a lifelong resident of the Washington, DC area and graduated from St. Anthony's
High School (1945) in Brookland.
He served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater in World War II. Bob was employed by the
Washington Gas Light Co. for 37 years. He was an active family man all of his life and
enjoyed sports both as an accomplished athlete and avid fan.
Friends will be received at PUMPHREY'S COLONIAL FUNERAL HOME, 300 W.
Montgomery Ave., (Rt. 28, exit 6A just off I-270) on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. where services
will be held on Monday, April 11 at 10 a.m.
Interment Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery at 2 p.m.
