Phyllis Dawson
1937 - 2021

On Jan. 27, 2021 Phyllis Elaine Dawson of Owensville,
Maryland passed away surrounded by her family at Anne
Arundel Medical Center after a 30 year fight with the blood
disease, TTP.

Elaine was born at Sibley Hospital Washington D.C. on
December 11, 1937. She was the third of five children of
Bertha Olivia Lewis and Talmadge Columbus Lewis.

The Lewis family lived in the Brightwood district in Washington, D.C. and Elaine attended
Washington, D.C. public schools graduating from
Roosevelt High school (1956).

The family summered at their cottage at Cape Anne on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay
in southern Anne Arundel County. It is at Cape Anne that Elaine met and then married in
October of 1955 the love of her life, Basil Kemp Dawson Jr. They together ran the Basil K.
Dawson Masonry business. Elaine also worked part time at the West River Post Office and
then full time at Shady Side Post Office. Elaine retired from the US Postal Service in 1994
and in retirement traveled the world with family and friends as well as spending most
winters in Fort Myers Beach Florida.

Elaine was a long-time resident of Owensville Maryland where Basil and she built their
family dream home in 1971.

In 1989 she lost her beloved Basil. Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, her sister
Patricia Ann, brothers T.C. and Arthur.

She is survived by her brother Ruic M. Lewis, her two sons, Samuel Kemp Dawson and
Arthur Wayne Dawson, 3 grandchildren Sam, Beth, Basil, step-granddaughter Michele, two
great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.

She was also loved and supported by her two longtime friends Lillian Russ and Shelley
Collison.

There will be no services at her request and burial at a future date.
