Donald Rives Brown

Lt. Col. Donald Rives Brown, USA (Ret.), 79, husband
of Diana Foote Brown and a resident of Wachapreague,
VA, passed away peacefully at his residence on
Wednesday, December 22, 2010. Born on February 18,
1931 in Takoma Park, MD, he was a son of the late
Waverly Sessions Brown and Rives Campbell Brown.

He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the United
States Army. Lt. Col. Brown grew up in Washington, DC and graduated from
Central High School. He attended the University of Maryland, College Park,
graduated from the University of Nebraska, Omaha, and earned his Master's
degree from the University of Richmond.

During his Army career, he served in the Infantry, Armor, Cavalry and
Military Intelligence Corp. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served
two tours in the Vietnam Conflict.

Other than his wife, survivors include his former wife and mother of his
children, Joyce Chaney Brown of Westminster, MD; four children, Donna
Brown Hansen, Douglas Rives Brown and wife Kelly, Charles Waverly
Brown, and Robert Campbell Brown and wife Anne; a brother, Waverly S.
Brown and wife Winnie; a sister, Joan Brown Vincent and husband Joe; nine
grandchildren, six nieces, three nephews, and six grand-nieces and

A Funeral Service will be held in the Old Post Chapel at Fort Myer, VA on
Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 9 a.m. with interment to follow at the Arlington
National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Eastern
Shore, 165 Market Street, Suite 3, Onancock, VA 23417 or to the Holy
