Willie Simms Hodge

Lifetime resident of the District of Columbia for 81 years died on Monday, August 11,
2014 at the Washington Hospital Center. Willie was born on August 22, 1932 in
Washington, DC to Henry and Ida Hodge and attended Cardoza High School and
thereafter obtained a Bachelor's Degree from Hampton Institute, now known as Hampton
University in Virginia. He married Jean Williams on August 25 and they would have
celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Willie was employed by the DC Department of Human Services, DC Children's Center at
Forest Haven, where he was instrumental in getting people with disabilities into the
workforce. He retired from the DC Government in 1987 after 35 years of service. Willie
was an avid golfer and family man who spent most weekends at Lake of the Woods in
Locust Grove, Virginia.
He leaves behind his widow, Jean Williams Hodge; their son Yul Beecher;
granddaughter, Alana Jean; daughter-in-law, Lisa Maria Mallory and her daughters,
Allisa and Aixa; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kayla; cousins, Coleman and Wanda
Hutchins and a host of family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 22 at 6 p.m. at Christ the King
Church, 2300 East West Highway, Silver Spring, Maryland followed by a reception.
