Margaret Elizabeth Waldecker Rowell, 96, of Greenville, died Wednesday,
November 7, 2012, following several years of declining health.
Born in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Udo Bernard
and Grace Adelaide Gascoigne Waldecker. She lived her formative years in
Washington, graduating from Central High School in 1934. She was a
graduate of Strayer Business College and employed at American Federal
Savings and Loan.
After her marriage to John Russell Rowell in 1938, she and her family lived
in Silver Spring, Maryland for many years. She was an accomplished
homemaker and mother to her three children. She was devoted to her
family in the truest sense of the word. She was generous, kind, loving, and
an ardent supporter of all her children's activities and accomplishments.
She and Russell moved to Pelzer, South Carolina in 1978, and being lifelong
Episcopalians, transferred their church membership to Christ Church
Episcopal, Greenville. She was an active member with regular attendance at
worship services, bible study classes, a volunteer in the church bookstore
and soup kitchen and a member of "Daughters of the King." For many
years, she donated one of her beautiful china dolls, that she hand-painted
and dressed, to the annual church bazaar. She was a talented seamstress
and skilled at needlework.
Margaret's greatest love, other than her husband, was being with her
children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She leaves behind a
wonderful legacy for her family of grace, kindness, a positive outlook, and
being so wonderfully nurturing. She was charming and endearing to

Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Dr. Erin Rowell Schmidt (Chris), Dr.
Jonathan Rowell (Lara), Caroline Rowell Sasser (Will), Jimmy Rowell
(Jennifer), David Rowell, Margie Swartz and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Russell, her husband of 57 years; a daughter,
Grace Rowell Swartz; a sister, Grace Bartlett; and two brothers, Robert and
Following a private burial, a celebration of her life will be held on Saturday,
November 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal, Greenville.
Visitation will follow the service at the church.

The family will be at the home of her son, Dr. John Rowell.
