Doris "Maw Maw" Roman 1932 - 2017
Mrs. Doris Bose "Maw Maw" Roman, 84, of Thurmont
passed away peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2017 at
Johns Hopkins Hospital surrounded by family. Doris
was born on October 27, 1932 in Washington, D.C. to
the late Herbert and Virginia Bose.
Doris grew up in Washington, D.C. and graduated from
Central High School (1950), where she met her late
husband John Edward Roman. She married her high
school sweetheart on November 18, 1950 and soon
after moved to Silver Spring where they raised three
children. They later moved to Thurmont where she was
a dedicated volunteer in the Thurmont community
serving as Board member and participant of the
Thurmont Senior Center, a volunteer and member of
the Eyler's Valley Chapel, and a volunteer with the former
Hope Alive ministries serving homeless women and children. She enjoyed her
membership with the Thurmont Chapter of the Red Hat Society. She worked for a large
data processing firm which she retired from after 25 years of service.
She was a loving and cherished wife of 52 years, mother, grandmother, and great
grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her, extending hospitality and love to those in
need and in service to her community. She enjoyed volunteering, gardening, sewing,
crocheting, traveling the world, camping, and spending time with family and friends.
Doris is survived by her daughter Sue Oehmig and son-in-law Mike of Adamstown; Jim
Roman and daughter-in-law Susan of Emmitsburg; grandchildren Tricia and Guy
Mutchler, Dale and Candy Oehmig, Nicole and Steve Sunday, Joshua and Mel Roman,
and Kourtney Roman; great grandchildren Caleb and Elizabeth Mutchler, Bailey and
Landon Oehmig, Noah and Wyatt Sunday, Zachary Mullins, and Avery Esparra; great
great grandson Jacob Ungrady; sister Mary Margaret Bittle; sister-in-law Julie Delaney;
and several brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her husband,
parents, and stepfather George Barnholt, Doris was proceeded in death by her son
Stephen Roman, granddaughter Kelly Oehmig, and daughter-in-law Karen Riffle Roman.
A memorial service in celebration of Doris' life will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 at
12 noon at Eyler's Valley Chapel, 7504 Hampton Valley Road, Emmitsburg, with Rev.
Jeff Walter officiating, followed by a picnic lunch.
Interment will be private.
