Joan Darcey, 81, who did volunteer work running the bookstore at the private Bullis
School in Potomac in the 1970s, died June 5 at the Fairfax Nursing Center. She had
Alzheimer’s disease, said her son, Kevin Darcey.
Catherine Joan Rea was a native Washingtonian and a 1949 graduate of the old
Central High School.
She was a Silver Spring homemaker for much of her life, and in 2005, she moved to
Her marriage to Dick Darcey, a former Washington Post photographer, ended in divorce.
Survivors include two children, Kevin Darcey and Donna Newman, both of Oakton; six
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
