William Louis Witzel "Bill"
Of Silver Spring, MD, died at age 89 on October 20,
2018 in Rockville, Maryland.
He was born on August 15, 1929 in New York City to
the late Ruth M. Witzel and John L. Witzel. His family
moved to Washington, DC, where he made standout
contributions to city championships as a player on the Calvin Coolidge High
School (1946) baseball, football and basketball teams.
Bill earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Maryland
in 1952 and went on to pioneer computer technology applications for law enforcement
agencies and the NFL. Bill co-founded the software firm Morino Associates with his
partner, Mario Morino, in 1973.
Bill is survived by his son, John "Fran" Witzel (Peggy); daughter, Patricia "Tricia"
Witzel-Grieb (Gerhard); grandchildren, Cori Grieb, Hanna Grieb (James), William
Witzel, John Witzel, and Sylvia Witzel.
He was recently predeceased by his life partner and loving wife, Carolyn K. Witzel.
