MARJORIE "MARGIE" WILKINSON

Marjorie Lee Wilkinson  "Margie" (Age 80)

A longtime resident of "old" Greenbelt, MD., died
September 13, 2018 at her daughter's home in
Purcellville, VA., after a brief battle with cancer.

Born in Indianapolis, IN., to Virgil Bankson (1908-62),
and Margaret Rodby (1905-91), Ms. Wilkinson and
her family moved to Washington, DC, in the early 1
940s. In 1948 her family relocated to Tokyo, Japan,
where her father had joined Gen. MacArthur's staff
as an economist working on stabilization of the yen. During the 1950s she also lived
in Djakarta, Indonesia, and Taipei, Taiwan.

Ms. Wilkinson had retired two years ago from the Washington-based Federation for
American Immigration Reform, where she was a grant writer. Previously, she worked
on Capitol Hill as a staff member of the late senator George McGovern (D-SD). She
also had worked as an office assistant with a law firm in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin
Islands.

Ms. Wilkinson was a graduate of
Coolidge Senior High School (1956) in
Washington, DC and she attended college at the University of Maryland.

She is predeceased by her sister, Jane Ellyn (1986), and her son, Brian David
(1996). Margie is survived by her daughter, Mary Lisa Wilkinson, of Purcellville, VA.; a
granddaughter, Hayley Taylor, of Front Royal, VA.; a grandson, Marshall Wilkinson, of
Flagstaff, Az.; a grandson John Mlinarcik, of Purcellville, Va.; a great-grandson,
Theodore Taylor; and a brother, Ross Bankson, of Fairfax, VA.

Those that knew Margie will miss her greatly. She was smart, curious, funny and
fierce; She did not mince words. Margie was an irreplaceable mentor and matriarch
to so many.

Ms. Wilkinson requested no funeral service nor memorial be held for her. She asked
that her ashes be scattered in the Chesapeake Bay.

The surviving family requests that, in lieu of flowers, friends and family direct their time
and attention to support the passage of state and national Death-with-Dignity laws,
also known as medical aid in dying.
