JOHN E. WALKER, JR.
Of Naples, FL, passed away peacefully in his home
on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 surrounded by loved
He was born in Washington, DC in 1940 to the late
John E. Walker, Sr. and Doris E. White. He graduated
in 1959 from Anacostia High School where he met
and married his wife of 56 years, Patricia (nee David)
Walker. Together they raised six children in Lanham,
MD before retiring to Naples, FL.
John "Jaybird" Walker had a successful career; first with Merkel Press, moving on
as a Journeyman at the Washington Star newspaper and finishing his career with
the Washington Post where he was a member of the Mailers Union Local 29 for 45
years before retiring in 2006.
He had a passion for family, friends, woodworking, genealogy, stamp collecting,
history and hanging with the crew at Homer Helter''s Antique and Military Mall.
He was preceded in death by his beloved bride, Patricia J. Walker, by one week.
Survivors include his loving children, Ellen (Edward) Kurz, Marsha (John)
Scheideler, Matthew (Tiffany) Walker, Heather Young, Michael (Kim) Walker and
Andrew (Bianca) Walker; 10 grandchildren, Samantha, Anne, Jennifer, Michelle,
Sarah, Hunter, Zachary, Walker, Eila and Lucy; three great-grandchildren; Stella,
Madelyn, Colton and two on the way; two sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law and
His love and laughter will be deeply missed and we find comfort knowing our
parents are together again.
A celebration of life will be held for both of our parents on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at
1:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 4150 Goodlette Road North, Naples, FL.
