Joan Ann Sexton Bronson

JOAN BRONSON

Joan "Grandma Joanie" Ann Sexton Bronson went home to the Lord on May 26,
2018, after a long struggle with health issues.

She was born on March 11, 1932, in Washington, DC. She was predeceased by
her parents, Francis and Pauline Sexton, and her siblings Mary Frances Sexton
Port and Paul Sexton.

Survivors include: her brother Gregory Sexton; sisters-in-law Candy Sexton and
Dody Sexton all of Maryland; five children, James (Patty) of Gaithersburg, MD,
Paula of England,, Kevin (Mildred) of Arizona, John (Pam) of Gaithersburg, MD and
Bethe (Jamison Suter) of England. She was proud of her 15 grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.

The Sexton family grew up in Washington, DC. Joan graduated from
Anacostia
High School (1951),
then worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture until her
1955 marriage to Lt. James Austin Bronson of Swanton, Vermont, which ended in
divorce. The Bronson family lived primarily in Garrett Park, Maryland, but was also
stationed in Cyprus from 1968 to 1971 and in the Panama Canal Zone from 1974 to
1976.

Joan worked for Electronic Data Systems from 1977 to 1982. She moved to the
Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, MD in 2011.

She visited her daughters and their families in England and her son and his family in
Arizona. Joan enjoyed regular video chats with the family outside of Maryland as
well. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Garrett Park, Maryland
for 50 years and was active in the Catholic community of Asbury Methodist Village
for the past seven years.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at DeVol Funeral
Home, 10 East Deer Park Drive Gaithersburg, MD 20877.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Asbury Methodist Village Guild
Chapel, 211 Russell Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD on June 6 at 11 a.m.

Interment at 2 p.m. at All Souls Cemetery, 11401 Brink Rd., Germantown, MD
20876.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Prevention of Blindness Society of
Metropolitan Washington, 233 Massachusetts Ave., NE Washington, DC 20002.
