DANIEL CHESIVOIR
Longtime resident of Rancho Santa Fe, CA died peacefully
on October 24, 2012 at San Diego Hospice.
Dan was born in Alexandria, VA. His father, Bernard, died
while Dan was a baby. He and his sisters, Evelyn and
Peggy, were raised in DC by parents, Sarah and Louis Brooks.
Dan graduated from Anacostia High School (1944) before enlisting in the Merchant
Marines and serving in the North Atlantic during WWII.
He married Rhona Trager in 1952, worked in the family retail and real estate
businesses, and had two children. In 1977, Dan and Rhona relocated to San Diego,
where Dan served as President of his Homeowner's Board, and as Chairman of
the San Dieguito Planning Board.
Dan loved his family and friends, and enjoyed travel, boating, scuba diving, bridge,
tennis, poker, theater, film, TV, and fast cars. His kindness, humor and generosity
will be long remembered.
Dan is survived by his sister, Peggy Brooks Smith of DC; and his children, Sheryl
(Sid Shapira), of San Diego, CA and Brad (Carole Klein) and their children, Zane,
Eve, and Beau of Bethesda, MD. Dan's loving wife, Rhona, and his sister, Evelyn,
predeceased him.
A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held at his son's home on
November 24 at 2 p.m. Donations in Dan's memory can be made to Parkinson's
Association of San Diego.
